Description:
Our bodies are us, but they are never only us, because life is innately collaborative: we are never only ourselves. This course looks at artists and activists, scientists and storytellers, theorists and cultural critics who work on what it is to be a body among other bodies. With their help, we'll consider our own human embodiment and how we impact one another, for good and ill. We will pay special attention to contemporary politics and creative practices that emerge from and elaborate on embodiment.Foundations in Critical Studies introduces critical thinking skills essential to college-level work in the humanities and sciences. Students develop their critical capacities through close reading and active response to cultural texts and phenomena drawn from multiple disciplines and reflecting diverse perspectives on major themes or topics in contemporary life.
