Description:
Borders between virtual and physical space are increasingly porous, the interactions and exchanges between them dynamic, in constant tension and flux. In this topic studio, we will question what defines and constitutes a space, and examine concepts of public, private, and personal spaces; negative space; information space; space and time; technological terrains; and civil, open, and closed spaces. We will approach these questions and concepts through the intersection of graphic design and interaction design practices. The studio will be structured around actions - mapping, navigating, wandering, searching, surveying, migrating, and hacking - with focus on process and generative making. Independent lines of inquiry are encouraged, and outputs will range from practical to speculative.
