Description:

The course offers a critical understanding of the history of Bollywood cinema since its inception to the present day. The focus will be on the development of post-independent parallel cinema comprising a new language of representation, and how it addresses issues of gender, sexuality, ethnicity, caste, and class. The course will also integrate the recent cinematic works by the directors of South Asian Diaspora, centering about transnationalism, diasporic identities of gender and ethnicities.
