Description:
Diversity Studies Seminars are in-depth experiences in the study of multiculturalism and cultural diversity in American society and in societies that have impacted American society. Courses expose students to and inform students about the contributions of African Americans, Asian Americans, Native Americans and Latinos to American culture, history, and society.Section Description:Are criminals a product or a reflection of their respective environments? Perhaps the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of their communities are the definitive aspect of their drive to success, but possibly the individual's lust for power is their sole motivating factor. Which characteristics does a street hustler share with a stockbroker? Are there more criminals now, or are we just better at finding them? This class examines the impact of corporate criminality on the culture across the United States and beyond our borders with specific concern to the degeneracy in professional ethics associated with the current political era and the rise of the alt right. Is the corporation as an entity inherently pathological, or is the callous indifference and wanton disregard for ethics that seem to characterize the modern American corporation merely a contrived stereotype created by anti-corporate intellectuals? We explore these themes as we study the development of the American Gangster.
