Associate Professor, Critical Ethnic Studies Program
Description:
This course explores selected aspects of Asian Pacific American cultural production--literature, film, visual art, music and theatre--in an effort to understand and appreciate: 1) the definitive traditions and sensibilities of Asian Pacific American cultural practices; 2) the development of Asian Pacific American culture as a response to life in America for the immigrant and American-born generations; and 3) Asian Pacific American aesthetics as part of an evolving multicultural identity in America. Our analysis will emphasize issues of race, class, and gender, cultural resistance and empowerment, ethnic identity and solidarity, cultural conflict and cultural fusion.
