Description:
This course explores selected aspects of Asian American cultural production-- literature, film, visual art, music and theatre--in an effort to understand and appreciate: 1) the definitive traditions and sensibilities of Asian American cultural practices; 2) the development of Asian American culture as a response to life in America for the immigrant, refugee and American-born generations; and 3) Asian American aesthetics as part of an evolving intersectional and political identity in America. Our analysis will emphasize racialization, class, gender/sexuality, cultural resistance and empowerment, ethnic identity and BIPOC solidarity.
