Description:
A poetry writing course that will focus on poetry from the thought, to the page, through self-publication. We will be looking at the role poetry plays in social movements and crises. We will be using poetry to look at current day issues including Covid-19 and Black Lives Matters. Students will be focusing on the work of established poets and pursuing an in-depth investigation of one poet as well as writing as essay on two poetry forms. Students will write formal non-European/European-American poetry forms (ghazal, bop, blues, pantoum, etc.) as well as free verse poetry, and create an individual chapbook digital chapbook of their poems.
