Description:
Final Dispatch from the Last Ethnic Studies Course in an Art and Design college in AmericaThis course looks at the position of journalistic truth telling, and critical thinking and acknowledges the resistance movement in America today. We will research, study, and document leaders of color that are: businesspeople, cultural producers, politicians, and religious leaders to paint a picture of what is happening on the ground in the United States today. We will create podcasts, and a final physical newspaper with reporting as: “Critical Ethnic Studies: The Final Dispatch” through videos and a public panel discussion on the role that artists and designers can play in both truth telling and making a more equitable world. What does Freedom of Speech, Academic Freedom mean? How can creativity impact the challenges? How can we use our humor? What about public mental health? How are immigrants, transpeople, and vulnerable communities impacted? We will present the place of the witness to the impacts of the U.S. national government on our communities. What can art/design do in a national/global catastrophe? Students will find a middle path to create awareness and find solutions to the chaotic influence of the present moment
