Description:
From sheep to shawls and plants to ponchos, how do we trace the path from fiber to yarn to cloth to garment? Through a holistic understanding of fiber, cloth and garment construction, Weave Your Wardrobe asks participants to consider loom weaving as a way to engage critical dialogues surrounding nature, clothing and the nature of clothing. The course will address soil, planning, warp winding, loom dressing, weaving, and finishing techniques alongside instruction in draping, patterning, cutting, and sewing. The class will culminate in the creation of a finished garment by the end of the semester, promoting a deeper understanding of fiber source, fabric construction, garment function, and purpose. Weave Your Wardrobe encourages participation from students of all majors, particularly those from Textiles, Fashion, Sculpture, Individualized, and Ecological Practices.
