Description:

Film 2: Production focuses on the planning and production of motion pictures, including conception, development, pre-production, and production processes and techniques. Through lecture, workshops and exercises, students gain a thorough understanding of the methods and collaborative processes required to make a film, including screenplay format and story development, pre-visualization, script breakdown, the role of department heads, scheduling, budgeting, staging and on-set protocols, crew roles and responsibilities, digital cinematography, audio recording, and basic lighting. Students work in groups to conceive and fully execute a short film as a team, from concept to marketing. In addition to the group project, the class will include synchronous (zoom) lectures and critiques, asynchronous viewing, reading and individual assignments, as well as scheduled in-person workshops in the CCA Soundstage for hand-on instruction on lighting, staging, and set protocol. Hybrid course sections will be delivered both online and in-person. Required online synchronous meeting times are listed as the meeting pattern for this course section. Additional course components will be delivered asynchronously or in-person as outlined in the syllabus.
