Description:
This workshop focuses on teaching filmmakers how to collaborate with and get the best performances from actors. Students begin with an investigation into the acting craft, schools andtechniques, then on to script analysis, the director's role and process, rehearsal techniqu es and use of improvisation, and the fundamentals of movement, staging and blocking. Students will then work through the casting process, and will cast local auditioning actors (from the Meisner Studio and Shelton Actors Lab) for their next project, exploring various methods of auditioning, including the monologue, cold readings, full readings, callbacks, and the interview. Students will then workshop, rehearse and direct a full scene from a theatrical playscript, to be presented in its entirety. Finally, student directors will switch to a new pair of actors (pulled from the original group) and work from a screenplay to rehearse, stage, shoot and edit a full scene for camera. Students will gain a thorough and experiential understanding of the process and craft of directing actors, which they can then continue to practice in their own filmmaking projects.
