Description:

The Spring Coastal Research Workshop is an investigative, research-based SRL exploring the regional California coastline. The workshop will engage with the coastline, intertidal zone, and ocean as a site for diverse practices; from the ecological to the maritime to the insurrectional to the sublime. Students will record or document the workshop in ways that flow from their own practice or working methods, with an eye towards how coastal research might inform future projects- from temporary gestures and performance to permanently sited artworks or proposals for longer-term engagements. This interdisciplinary SRL will take place after Spring Break, between April 1-May 10. It may involve 1-3 full-day field trips and shorter meetings at CCA or coastal, art, or other institutional locations around the Bay Area. Trips may include walking, kayaking or sailing, engagement with sited ecological remediation or scientific research data gathering (TBD), or meetings with artists with a 'coastal practice.'"
