Description:
A photographer’s studio practice is multifaceted — such is this course. We will meet weekly (Mon. 4-7) on the San Francisco campus to discuss what it takes to balance an art practice, professional life, and cultivate a supportive creative community. This course will serve as introduction to the incredibly vibrant photography world that exists in the Bay Area. There will be various field trips to institutions such as SFMoMA, Pier 24, fine art galleries like Casemore Kirkeby, as well as studio visits to local artists. Along the way we will also discuss the world of photobooks and publishing, photographic literacy as sequential language, print materials, strategies for installation, as well as critique works-in-progress made during the semester. This is not a tech heavy course, but will incorporate some technical workshops when needed to address current trends of production for exhibition and publishing.
