Description:
Drawing is a fundamental skill and a practice that is integral in art, design, and architecture practices and relevant to all programs at the College. Drawing Studio: San Francisco Landscapes (Hybrid) is designed to increase competency through the development of site specific observational skills. This course will introduce how drawing connects to multiple disciplines and is informed by diverse cultural contributions. Through developmental, weekly assignments, students practice the craft and precision of drawing, while coordinating fine motor skills with visual communication. Attention is given to building professional time management skills. Drawing Studio emphasizes a focused approach and select materials to develop and strengthen both observational skills and drawing skills. Formal properties include: line, contour, volume, value, shadow, composition, negative/positive space, figure/ground relationship, perspective, planar analysis, focal points, and proportion. Lectures and demonstrations for this hybrid Drawing course will be delivered online. Required online synchronous meeting times are listed as the meeting pattern for this course section. Additional course components will be delivered outside, and in-person, to give students the skills necessary for a site based drawing practice.
- A student enrolled in a hybrid course can only meet the in-person requirements with physical presence by participating in drawing field trips with site based drawing practice.
- The in-person component is integral to successful completion of the course.
- All students enrolled in the hybrid course are subject to the same in-person requirements. Students that are unable to meet the in-person requirements of the course should be enrolled in an online only course.
