Students will have the opportunity to paint, sandblast, bend and layer imagery in a transparent medium. This course introduces different methods of kilnforming glass: texture, pattern, shape, color and imagery; all created through heating in the kiln. Techniques include cutting, sandblasting photographic images, glass enamel painting, fusing colored sheets, bas-relief or textured casting, glass slumping, and drawing with colored glass. Students will learn the basics of drawing for design, light and shading, and the use of technical plan drawing to refine and communicate visual ideas. Using source drawings and photographic images, students will learn how to transfer images permanently to the surface and within glass. Additional materials fee will be charged. Open to students in all disciplines; no prior glass experience necessary.
