Description:
In the Glass Studios, students will acquire the working vocabulary for numerous glass skills and techniques. Specific topics rotate each semester - please see the section description for details.Course Description: Intermediate Glass Blowing uses a thematic framework to approach and practice technical glassblowing skills. Demonstrations and supervised practice will introduce a variety of color application techniques and different approaches to creating forms. Students will also gain collaborative skills, learning to communicate ideas and execute plans in conjunction with others. This class is open to any students who have taken Introduction to Glass and Blowing, Glass Product Design, or have a basic knowledge of gathering and shaping glass. Additional materials fee will be charged.Section Description:This course will investigate UN Sustainable Development Goals through the act and practice of blowing glass. Students will explore technical glassblowing through visual, formal and conceptual issues based on the UN's seventeen goals, including Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. We will think about glass as a container, filter, or transporter of water. Studio work and research assignments will be paired with appropriate lectures, demonstrations and field trips which will enable students to develop a broad perspective on Glass and the ability to analyze artworks.
