Description:

In this class, students will focus the first half of the semester on blowing foundational forms and the second half on mold blowing. They will fabricate molds from wood, metal, and plaster in order to actualize their projects. Students will generate ideas and concepts that bring depth to the objects they create whilst developing their language and visual vocabulary. Students will learn foundational skills that are crucial in the making of both free-blown and mold-blown objects. With the goal of furthering their technical glassblowing skills, great emphasis is placed on practicing, studying, and reading about glass making techniques. Drawing and research preparation will be a huge component to weekly project that will push students’ artistic development. This class will also teach people the skills required to be a good gaffer as well as assistant through a collaborative approach. Repetition is the name of the game. From gathering, to marvering or making duplicate cylinders, bowls, or asymmetrical forms, we will fine-tune our rhythm and technique through repetition.Prerequisites are Intro to Glass and Blowing. This class is open to anyone that would like to continue working with glass, both for Glass majors and non-Glass majors.
