Description:

This course will explore the unique topic of animated loops; both in concept and craft. Projects will experiment with various techniques for animating endless cycles, weaving loops, maximum loops, permanent drawings, interactive loops, and cyclical storytelling. Both material and digital animation techniques will be used. Students will explore the history of loops in animation and their contemporary application in advertising, internet art, and new media. Screenings will explore repetitive temporalities and short-form animation (gifs, installation). Students across majors are invited to investigate the complexity of endless media as it relates to philosophy and its unique relationship to labor. We will also examine viewership through the display and exhibition of loops. All levels of animation experience are welcome and will benefit from this class.
