Description:
There can be no doubt that we are living in a VUCA world: volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous. Everywhere we look there is disruption — geopolitics, climate, commerce, global health, civil society, and civil rights; the rise of the metaverse; the rise of sea levels; the rush to conquer the Arctic and/or land on Mars; emerging AR/VR and generative AI; the expansion of all things digital and the growing nostalgia and cool factor of analog… Not a single aspect of our lives seems quite as it was pre-2020. It seems reasonable to wonder how we can best manage the risks, threats, uncertainties as well as opportunities of the present while also designing better (and more equitable) futures. More than ever, the world needs design leaders who can see larger system dynamics, communicate inspired visions, and design for the greater good. These design system leaders call forth our individual and collective strengths, along with personal and communal resiliency, as they foster individual, team, and organizational health as a foundation for sustainable innovation and effective performance. Leadership by Design encourages you to deepen your personal self-awareness and build greater capacity and capabilities in exercising agile leadership, strategic influence, negotiation, management, and intrapersonal and collaboration skills. We’ll examine and discuss various traits, behaviors, processes, frameworks, and tools by which we lead ourselves and others, and the organizational cultures within which this happens. While most people associate “the future of work” with the rise of the entrepreneurial generation or the development of emerging “work-from-anywhere” models centered on employee wellness, we’ll explore the inevitable next wave of design leadership — and that includes you.
