Description:

Course Overview. “In our view [trying to pin the future down} is a pointless activity. What we are interested in, though, is the idea of possible futures and using them as tools to better understand the present and discuss the kind of future people want, and of course, ones people don’t want” - Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby from their book Speculative Everything (MIT Press). This course equips you with practical tools to anticipate, navigate, and shape the future in a rapidly changing cultural, business and design landscape. You'll develop both strategic foresight and creative solution-finding skills, enabling you to manage uncertainties, seize opportunities, and create innovative solutions across various fields. We will discuss the space of future studies and the role of strategic foresight in delivering human, business and societal outcomes. Students will learn about Futures Studies, practical and applied Foresight Methods, techniques for analyzing trends and emerging issues. The class will use a mix of lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities and apply methods to scenarios based on advanced and emerging technologies.
