Description:
In M.Arch Studio 3, the third course in the graduate Architecture studio sequence, students undertake the design of a medium-scale building in an urban setting. The studio has two main goals: first, to enable students to learn how to synthesize multiple factors–including form-making, typology, program, site conditions, cultural and political considerations, and user requirements–into a well-resolved architectural proposal; and second, to teach the important role of research and analysis in the design process. Within the studio, students approach design as a form of research and iterative development. Students learn to make an architectural argument through design and supporting research, articulated through a comprehensive set of drawings, renderings, and physical models.
