Description:
Welcome to the incredible world of Jewelry and Metal Arts! This introductory course will teach you how to use metal to create jewelry and small sculptures. You will learn how to set up a home studio space with basic jewelry and metalsmithing tools. Your instructor will provide individual guidance through live zoom meetings, lectures, readings and recorded video demonstrations. You will master techniques including filing, sawing, piercing, texturing, and forming. Developmental drawings and models will be utilized as part of the design process for assigned projects. Vocabulary, proper tool/equipment use, and home studio safety will be emphasized throughout the semester. Tool kits will be available on loan for those students in the Bay Area. The exciting thing about this course is that it will give you foundational skills allowing you to continue making jewelry and metalwork as a Jewelry and Metal Arts major or on your own. This course has information applicable for students in all majors at CCA. This course has two components and you are required to register for both. There is a Studio section for the asynchronous portions of the course and a Workshop section that is for required synchronous components of the course. The asynchronous work will be done on your own time while the required online synchronous meeting times are listed as the meeting pattern for this course section.
