Description:
In this 2000 level course, students will develop their foundation skills in metalsmithing and jewelry as well as develop ecological practice skills. This course can be used to fulfill requirements for the ecological practices minor.Students will learn about the environmental effects of mining, learn to recycle metals to create new work and find more environmentally friendly methods of etching and other techniques Part of the semester students will learn the ancient technique of chasing and repose. They will make their own tools and use them to create high or low relief in sheet metal to create texture and/or representational imagery. 2 A and 2 B can be taken in either order.
