Description:

The making of metal objects and ornaments is one of the oldest areas of creative endeavor. Contemporary metalsmithing encompasses a wide range of manifestations, including jewelry and adornment, functional holloware and objects, and non-functional constructions dealing with the vocabulary and issues of art, craft, and technology. Examining the long history of works created in metal, with particular emphasis on the development of the contemporary field, opens a wide range of resources for the artist. Students will have the opportunity to explore issues and topics covered during the semester with a combination of research and studio investigation in the media of their choice.
