Description:
Our bodies are us, but they are not only us, because they are also the medium of our interface with the larger world. Between COVID, #BlackLivesMatter, conflicts over immigration and belonging, and the transforming field of gender, our social bodies have all been changing very quickly; planetary environmental crisis means maybe we haven’t been changing fast enough. What do we mean when we talk about things going “back to normal”? This course offers time and tools to consider and explore what it’s like to be a body with other bodies, not all of which are human. We will use ideas from philosophers, artists, art critics, and activists to talk about pandemic, racial justice, gender/sexuality and our shared environment. All along, we will carry these ideas and experiences from written and spoken words into our creative practices and our social relationships.
