Description:
For students who are highly motivated and dedicated to their work, upper-level Painting/Drawing Workshops continue to advance ideas from earlier workshops with a deeper emphasis on the development a personal voice through individual projects and critical thinking, both in and out of the studio. Interdisciplinarity, experimentation and collaboration are encouraged. Lectures, readings, presentations, and guest critiques provide additional context for this research.
In this class, each student will work on a self-directed series of paintings/drawings. The proposal requirements will include a preliminary bibliography, materials listing, and research plan for independently-directed studio based project. We will only will be meeting the first 9 weeks of the semester. The course will conclude in a 2 day mandatory field trip, touring museums in Los Angeles. We will visit 5 museums in two full days; Marciano Art Foundation, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles (MOCA), UCLA Hammer Museum, California African American Museum (CAAM), and The Museum of Jurassic Technology. Each student must arrange their own travel and accommodations for the field trip to Los Angeles on March 26-27 (during Spring Break).
