Description:
This course introduces students working in diverse disciplines to the creative potential of cloth and string. From weaving to surface design to three-dimensional structures, students explore a wide range of hands-on textile techniques including felting, stitching, netting, crocheting, dyeing, fabric printing, and loom weaving. After initial experimentation, students are encouraged to push the boundaries of the media, using both traditional and non-traditional materials to create individual projects. Students from ALL majors—from fashion and interior design to sculpture and painting—are invited to discover the physical properties, conceptual principles, and diverse cultural histories of textiles and to incorporate these possibilities into their own design or fine art practices. We will be back in the beautiful Textile Studios!Hybrid course sections will be delivered both online and in-person. Required online synchronous meeting times are listed as the meeting pattern for this course section. Additional course components will be delivered asynchronously or in-person as outlined in the syllabus.
