Description:
An engineered print is designed to interact in a dynamic way with a shaped textile. It differs from a repeat pattern in that it is a self-contained composition, as in a Hermes scarf, or scaled to fit in a particular place, as in the iconic Dali-inspired lobster gown of fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. In this course, students brainstorm several objects to produce. Applications include fashion, accessories, furniture, sculpture, and interiors. Working with the shape of each canvas, students design and draw engineered compositions and produce color-separated sets of stencils. Layout and printing strategies will be emphasized and some construction coaching will be provided to produce finished items.
