Description:

This course offers students the opportunity to exercise their expertise in their majors and re-engage in interdisciplinary learning by creating site-specific works informed by Capp Street Project Archive. Founded in 1983 by Ann Hatch (CCA Trustee since 1998), the Capp Street Project provided contemporary artists, including David Ireland, James Turrell, Hung Liu, and Janine Antoni, with the opportunity to create works throughout the eighties and nineties. In 1998, the CSP name and concept were acquired by the Wattis Institute and the CSPA found a new home in the Meyer Library on the Oakland campus. Coursework includes researching the process, intention, and realization of projects sponsored by CSP and using the information to guide the creation of new collaborative and individual site-specific works. Hands-on archive experiences will be guided by Jennine Scarboro, Curator of the CSPA. The course culminates in a campus exhibition curated by Jaime Austin, Director of Exhibitions.
