Description:
In this class students will explore repetition, multiples and modularity across disciplines and media practices.Over the semester we will leverage the various technologies across the college to create work in traditional craft and contemporary making practices. We will investigate concepts of scarcity, one off objects, limited editions and full scale production as it relates to the objects that we create. The class will develop skills for mold making, patterns, jigs and fixturing, repeatable processes as well as the tools and technologies available to create a body of work across many objects. This class is open to investigation across all disciplines, and students are encouraged to use this class to amplify their work and individual pursuits.Upper Division Interdisciplinary Studios extend a student's cross-school experience from Core Studio up into their upper division years. 3 units of Interdisciplinary Studio are required of all majors and must be completed in the junior or senior year. This advanced level studio is thematic in nature. Technical demonstrations are paired with thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects. Collaboration, experimentation and presentation skills are developed in concert with critical thinking.
