Description:

Welcome to a course where anything—truly anything—might just spring to life. This fully online class invites you into the imaginative, hands-on world of puppetry as a wildly interdisciplinary art form. Think: illustration that moves, sculpture that acts, textiles that transform, props that misbehave, photos that come alive, and animations built from objects you create with your own hands. Whether you’re into drawing, filmmaking, performance, stop-motion, worldbuilding, costuming, coding, sound, or storytelling—puppetry is where all your skills can collide in the most joyful, surprising ways. Upper Division Interdisciplinary Studios extend a student's cross-school experience from Core Studio up into their upper division years. 3 units of Interdisciplinary Studio are required of all majors and must be completed in the junior or senior year. This advanced level studio is thematic in nature. Technical demonstrations are paired with thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects. Collaboration, experimentation and presentation skills are developed in concert with critical thinking.
