Description:
Upper Division Interdisciplinary Studios extend a student's cross-school experience from Core Studio up into their upper division years. 3 units of Interdisciplinary Studio are required of all majors and must be completed in the junior or senior year. This advanced level studio is thematic in nature. Technical demonstrations are paired with thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects. Collaboration, experimentation and presentation skills are developed in concert with critical thinking.Section Description: Insights in Site examines how we shift from individual to collective care through embodied, layered interactions with our space, community, and broader society. Students engage in multi-sensory, somatic investigations of space and self. Through diverse creative practices we embody and express our research. We examine how identity, lived experience, and ecology influence our creative-making process to (re)define our relationship with place. This class is site specific, located on CCA’s Oakland campus where questions of transitions and loss of place will be explored through both personal and performative activations. Juxtaposing personal practices of care with sensory investigations and spatial activations, students develop new sensory skills as means for nonverbal communication and connection. Through reflection, experimentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the outcomes of this course will be a series of responses that reflect the comforts and discomforts of connection, care, and belonging.
