Description:
Upper Division Interdisciplinary Studios extend a student's cross-school experience from Core Studio up into their upper division years. 3 units of Interdisciplinary Studio are required of all majors and must be completed in the junior or senior year. This advanced level studio is thematic in nature. Technical demonstrations are paired with thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects. Collaboration, experimentation and presentation skills are developed in concert with critical thinking.Section DescriptionThis class is a cross fertilization of the rich material from the natural environment and the arts. The natural environment will be explored as a subject from the lens of artists. As artists and designers we will respond to natural forces through the implementation of our artmaking apparatus that will be generated during the class. This activity will be a great opportunity for students to explore new trajectories and approaches to their work.Drawing inspiration from the rich fields of literature, naturalists and scientists as it pertains to the environment we will interpret nature through an artistic lens. Imagine harnessing the wind, fog, or UV to scribe, draw and paint. Through carefully engineered parameters, we will create machines that do just that. We will utilize artistic techniques to make the works and translate environmental forces into art pieces.
