Description:
For Fall 2019, MFA Writing will offer Mentored Study as a series of five-week, linked "arenas,” focusing on specific craft skills and the development of a writer's/artist’s/designer’s individual voice. Each student will spend an approximately equal number of weeks in a section with one instructor before rotating to the next section. This allows varied experiences with teaching styles and writing practice models. At its essence, Mentored Study interrogates a very simple premise: How do we develop voice? But simplicity is deceptive and illusive in writing as in all things -- so we will bolster our work through contextual readings, writing prompts, craft talks, and 1:1 meetings. Students will engage with forms, both familiar and new.
