A message from President Steve Beal

Dear CCA faculty, staff, and students,

As we settle into the spring semester, I want to express my excitement and gratitude for this community. In the second semester of all in-person classes in San Francisco, the energy and enthusiasm of students and faculty working together on campus are remarkable. I’m inspired by the work I see emerging in our studios and classrooms, and for those who haven’t already visited, I urge you to visit CCA’s new Campus Gallery at 1480 17th Street to see an exhibition by alumna Christine Wong Yap, titled Recognitions / 认 • 知 .

While there is much to celebrate, we also note that the year has started with great tragedy and sadness, with deadly violence occurring close to home and throughout the country, further traumatizing Black, Brown, and AAPI communities. The cumulative effect of these incidents is profound, and I want to pause to acknowledge the toll this takes on students, faculty, staff, and alumni. My thoughts are with the CCA community and those deeply affected by the tragedies both near and far.

Through your interactions with colleagues, classmates, faculty, and staff, I encourage you to find connections here at CCA. Together, I hope we can continue to support each other and build on our collective energy and inspiration as we look to the future.

I’ve included a few resources below that you may find helpful for yourself and your loved ones. Please take good care of yourselves and each other.

All the best,

Steve
