Event description

Vivian Sming
Editor-in-Chief, Art Practical

TOPIC:  “Locating Ethics”

Vivian Sming is an artist, writer, and publisher based in the Bay Area who uses text, image, and new genres to engage in posthuman discourse. She is the Head of Publications, Education, and Programs at Art Practical, co-founded nonsensical, an annual journal of critical and experimental writing by visual artists, and produces a wide range of artists’ books through her publishing studio Sming Sming Books. Sming is invested in creating books from practices that are challenging to represent on paper, and is committed to promoting critical discourse and advancing cultural equity through the format of publishing. Her books have been collected by over fifty libraries, museums, and universities, nation- and worldwide, including the Getty, Whitney, Met, MoMA, SFMOMA, and are currently on view in the exhibition Printed Publics: Contemporary Art and Design Publishing at SFMOMA.
