BIPOC Adjunct Faculty Development Grant

Last updated on Nov 02, 2023

Overview

The College has established the BIPOC Adjunct Faculty Development Grant to support the development of BIPOC adjunct faculty as instructors and professionals in their disciplines. The annual grant is intended to provide funding to support the awardees in the inception, development, or completion of projects, training, and/or scholarship that furthers their professional, creative, and/or career aspirations.

Grant Mission

CCA’s BIPOC* Adjunct Faculty Development Grant** contributes to the collective strategic goal of cultivating a diverse range of creative voices in our classrooms and studios while recognizing the significant, intersectional inequities faced by adjuncts who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in advancing their practices and professional careers.

Eligibility

BIPOC-identifying regular*** Adjunct I, Adjunct II, and Senior Adjunct faculty currently teaching at the College are eligible to apply for the BIPOC Adjunct Faculty Development Grant. Applicants must have taught four or more course lines at the College over at least two semesters in a degree-granting program and must expect to be contracted to teach in the academic year in which the funding will be disbursed.

BIPOC Adjunct Faculty are eligible to receive funding through this grant once every four years.

Note: While CCA is committed to supporting diverse faculty in many areas (gender, LGBTQIA+, ability, nationality or otherwise), we have made the decision in partnership with our adjunct faculty union to focus this development grant on racial and ethnic diversity.

Application Components

Round 1: In an effort to create an inclusive–yet streamlined–process, applicants will submit a brief, initial project proposal that will be reviewed by the committee. Proposals can be in written, slide deck, audio, or video (5 min or less) form. A limited number of applications will be advanced to Round 2.

Committee Feedback: committee may request more specific information in approving applications for stage 2. The committee may also provide feedback for applications not selected to advance to stage 2.

Round 2: Finalists will then be invited to complete a comprehensive application (template) detailing the proposed project, training, and/or scholarship and the plan for accomplishing the stated objectives. The application will also gather information on the relationship of the project to the applicant’s professional, creative, teaching, and/or career aspirations; and on project methodology. Applications will also include a budget showing expected use of the funds.

The applicant’s chair will also submit a form of support for the project attesting to the significance/impact of the project and the likelihood of its being realized through the grant support.

Application Form

You can access the application form here.

Round 1 applications are due by November 30, 2023 at midnight.

Use of Funds

Recipients will receive grant funding as a single payment in the expectation that they will use the funds for the realization of their proposed project in accordance with their submitted plan/budget. This grant intentionally recognizes that there are “hidden costs” to pursuing professional development, and therefore eligible expenses are considered more broadly than the conventional faculty development grant at CCA. The College will not track or monitor the use of the funds via receipts and reimbursements.

Possible uses of the funds may include:

  • Artistic and/or scholarly practice;
  • Courses or trainings;
  • Travel to a conference, training, exhibition, or workshop;
  • Registration fees for a conference, workshop, etc.;
  • Curricular development expenses;
  • Personal expenses in order to participate in activities listed above;
  • Subscription or access costs related to creative and/or scholarly practice;
  • Production or materials costs related to creative and/or scholarly practice;
  • Payment for services related to creative and/or scholarly practice; etc.
  • The recipient may also opt to use the funds to reduce teaching load in order to have more time to devote to the proposed project/practice.

The BIPOC Adjunct Faculty Development Grant provides funding for two $5,000 grants annually.

Disbursement of Grant Funds

The full amount of grant funding will be disbursed to each recipient by March 15, 2024. Note: grant funds are considered taxable income and proposal budgets should account for tax withholdings.
