Required for all print majors, this course surveys the historical evolution and contemporary expressions of intaglio, lithography, relief, monotype/monoprint, screen print, digital, livres d?artistes and artists' books, and papermaking. Along with an examination of Asian and European antecedents in papermaking, woodcut and stencil printing, the invention of type and the printing press; the Pop Movement of the 60's, the Poster, and the Democratic Multiple will be explored. Particular attention will be given to current trends in printmaking as well as the role printmakers have had in contemporary art.
