Description:

Animation Workshops are a series of courses that teach essential skills about a specific topic within animation. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will engage in rigorous study about a specific subject matter. The goal of Animation Workshops is to produce work that illustrates the skills learned. These courses are open to all CCA students who have completed CORE D1 and 4D.In this course we will explore the many ways in which we will create a functioning puppet, regardless of the complexity, to suit the needs of the stop motion animator.  The stop motion animation puppet is a very specific approach to creating believable and fluid motion from a character representation created for that purpose.  The character representation, puppet, will be the creation of the student that will, ideally, be an answer to a larger set of problems that is involved with a production the student has planned to accomplish during their time at CCA.The puppet(s) created will be a basic wire armature that will have enhanced capabilities allowing for replacement of limbs, the parts that predictably wear out during the animation production process.  The purpose being that no delays should occur during production as a result of worn or damaged parts due to the stress of the animation process.Future discussions and lessons will include the creation of custom clothing for the puppets you will have created.  These garments will be designed to move, or not move, with your character’s actions and to fit the style of your character as well.We will also be designing into the puppets ways in which they can be rigged for movement during production.
