This class is an introduction to Processing and the Arduino. Processing is a powerful, open source, programming language developed by artists for artists. Coding or programing gives artists a cutting-edge palette of tools to explore the expressive potential of emerging technologies. Processing can be used to create interactive installations or generative compositions that shift and change over time. It can be used to visualize data, and manipulate images in real time. Arduino is an open-source electronics platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino can be used to read sensors and control actuators to create tangible and responsive objects. Technical instruction will be peppered with discussions about the ramifications of the open source movement. Topics include: creative commons, open distribution, sharing, and open capitalism, to name a few. It should be emphasized that this is an entry level class. The only requirements are that you are not intimidated by computers, can bring a laptop to class, and are eager to be challenged by new concepts and ideas.
