Description:
Since the turn of the millennium, hand-weaving and textile production has experienced a renaissance within contemporary culture. This renewed interest in weaving has allowed us to consider new potentials and limitations emergent through our bodies, the interlacement of threads, and the materiality we create as a result of both. In this course, we will collectively expand the rhetoric of weaving through practice and discussion. Experienced weavers will have ample room to strengthen their existing skills and newcomers to the process will be given the basic technical skills to make their ideas take form. Class discussions will be accompanied by field trips and lectures however an emphasis will be placed on individual studio practices and critique.
