Description:
Revolutionary Visions. In this course students will explore both the small and the large revolutions that shape lives, define cultural histories, and alter the trajectories of civilizations. We will turn a critical, creative eye on the many seeds of revolution in the contemporary while exploring the revolutions of the past. We will engage with the concept, history, and theory behind revolutions of all kinds: personal, social, political, philosophical, technological, and scientific. Students will consider the revolutions of thought and feeling that have shaped their personal lives and histories, while also exploring the role revolution has, does, and may continue to play in our communities, in our culture, in American history, in Western thought, in scientific upheaval, in technological and industrial revolution, and the potential for dystopian or utopian futures for humanity.
