Description:
San Francisco is a unique place, situated between the raw Pacific Ocean on one side and the magnificent San Francisco Bay on the other. Water makes a vast extension of our borders. These marine zones represent a fertile environment with not only an abundance of life but a unique opportunity for us as artists. In this class we will explore the aquatic environment from the ocean to the bay. Through field work, observation, experiments, and dialogue with experts that focus on this amazing resource we will create artwork that responds to the environment. Upper Division Interdisciplinary Studios extend a student's cross-school experience from Core Studio up into their upper division years. 3 units of Interdisciplinary Studio are required of all majors and must be completed in the junior or senior year. This advanced level studio is thematic in nature. Technical demonstrations are paired with thoughtful readings, seminar discussions and ambitious projects. Collaboration, experimentation and presentation skills are developed in concert with critical thinking.
