Event description

The Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Lecture Series is supported by the Fine Arts Division, Nion McElvoy, Pier 24 Photography and the Larry Sultan Estate

The Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Program, a free, public on-campus lecture series, pays tribute to the renowned photographic artist and longtime CCA faculty member Larry Sultan. Each year this series brings to campus prominent photographers and artists working in photography-related media to give public presentations, critique student work, and participate in events and projects. The Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Program is co-presented by California College of the Arts, Pier 24 Photography, and SFMOMA. Support for the program is currently provided by Jamie Lunder, Nion McEvoy, Jane Reed, the Black Dog Private Foundation (David Mahoney), and Pier 24 Photography.

In addition to sponsoring a public lecture by each visiting artist, the program enables students in CCA’s Graduate Program in Fine Arts and undergraduate Photography Program to have invaluable personal contact with some of the most talented and influential artists currently working in the medium. Together with the region’s many museums, galleries, and premier photography collections such as that of Pier 24 Photography, the program furthers the reputation of the San Francisco Bay Area as a rich context for the study of contemporary photographic production.
