Registration-related Accommodations
Registration-related accommodations ensure equal access to academic coursework for students who may experience course schedule-related barriers. These accommodations intend to ensure approved students secure slots in courses that meet their scheduling needs, accessibility requirements, or health considerations.
For some students, this might mean selecting courses at times of day when they are most alert or when medication side effects are least disruptive. We list some more examples of barriers in the next section.
The process for implementing these accommodations involves a collaborative effort between the student, disability services, academic advising, and the student records office. Each student's accommodations are determined based on a thorough assessment of their individual needs, documented disability, and the potential impact on their access to the learning objectives of their academic program.
Course Schedule Related Barriers
Students experiencing course schedule-related barriers would be eligible for registration-related accommodations. Some examples of those barriers are listed below.
- Timing conflicts with medical treatments, therapies, or necessary medical appointments that conflict with scheduled class times, making it difficult or impossible to attend certain courses.
- Physical accessibility issues such as courses scheduled in different buildings too far apart to navigate between in a short passing period.
- Energy and Concentration fluctuations - students with chronic illnesses or certain disabilities might experience fluctuations in energy levels or concentration throughout the day.
- Medication Side Effects may impact a student's ability to attend early morning or late evening courses.
- Mental health considerations allow a student to schedule their courses during optimal functioning periods.

How to Use the Accommodation
For students who are approved for Registration-related Accommodations, how they use them corresponds to their program and degree progress. For most undergraduate students, they will have early access to register for their courses when the registration period begins. For the students whose peers will also have access to register for their courses on the first day, academic affairs and the student records office will offer administrative support before the registration period begins to ensure the accommodation is reasonably met.

Student Registers for Courses
Students with this accommodation will have access to register for their courses the day the registration period opens. That means you should be prepared to register for your courses beforehand to ensure you can secure a spot in your courses.

Administrative Registration
To receive administrative registration support, eligible undergraduate students should share their registration requests with Academic Advising and the Student Records Office. Together, they will assess the request to determine the type of registration assistance needed, such as Prerequisite or Over-enrollment Overrides, Reserved Seats, etc., applicable for the Fall, Spring, and Summer terms. Ideally, this request would be sent before registration begins.
Graduate students would follow the same steps, but email Graduate Affairs and the Student Records Office.
