Spring move-out

Current Residents

Current residential students must complete their move-out by May 13th at Noon, unless they are graduating or have a summer housing license agreement. There are three steps to complete the move-out process.

Step 1 – Prepare Your Room

You should remove all posters, pictures, and wall hangings, being careful not to damage the walls. You should ensure all CCA-issued furniture is in its original configuration and good working order. Finally, clean your space using our handy cleaning checklist–wipe down surfaces, sweep, and properly dispose of your trash. Here’s a quick list of things that you might also want to know or consider:

  • CCA does not partner with storage or moving companies, so we suggest researching to find something that works for you.
  • Don’t forget to forward your mail for the summer.
  • You can donate unused or unwanted items.

Step 2 – Move Out Your Belongings

Once your room is prepared, remove all of your items from your room–don’t forget to check in all your drawers! You may be charged if you leave anything in your room, including trash. A limited number of carts will be available for move-out. You can check out a cart from the front desk on a first-come, first-served basis. Make arrangements now to line up the help you need to move out, and if you need help moving out due to a documented disability, email access@cca.edu for assistance.

Step 3 – Check Out of Your Room

Those checking out before May 13th must go to the Front Desk after completing Steps 1 and 2 and complete an Express Checkout Form. Those completing an Express Checkout should note that limited staff and resources will be available. Front Desk staff will make every effort to answer questions and provide carts; still, you may experience longer wait times for carts, and individual questions may be referred to Housing, Dining & Residential Education Staff.

On May 13th, before noon, RAs will be available in the common areas of the floors to assist you with your checkout. Failure to check out with an RA or complete an Express Checkout Form before Noon will result in an Improper Checkout Fee. Fees will also be assessed for students who fail to complete move-out by noon.

Graduating Residents

Graduating residents must complete their move-out by May 19th at Noon.

Summer move out

Here are some move-out resources to help you prepare your room, move out your belongings, and check out of your room.

Damage Charges & Move-Out Fees

Residents should thoroughly clean their room/unit before moving out to prevent the assessment of damages charges and move-out fees. For residents living in a shared space, any assessed charges or fees are split among occupants, unless a resident(s) claims responsibility in the notes of the Room Condition Report via Symplicity. Roommates/Suitemates should discuss shared damages and responsibilities before moving out.

Common damage charges and move-out fees include:

  • Trash Removal fee of $30 per bag
  • Holes/Damage to Walls fee of $40 per spot, $≥125 per wall
  • Cleaning fee of $≤250

You can find a detailed list of charges, here.

Improper Checkout

Residents are expected to check out of their room/unit on their assigned date, at their designated time. Residents must also follow all move-out procedures, including, returning (if applicable) their keys, mail key, and key fob. Failure to complete check-out as instructed may result in a $125 improper checkout fee. Residents who do not check out by noon may also be charged $50 every 30 minutes until their checkout is complete. Residents may also be charged a re-core and replacement fee for unreturned keys.

Forwarding your mail

Since CCA's residential halls address is considered a business address, residents cannot change their address via the US Postal Service. Instead, two weeks before moving out, residents should personally notify businesses and individuals who send them mail and packages, that their residential address has changed. Any mail received after a resident's move-out date will be returned to the sender.

Trash disposal & donations

Trash Disposal

The Founders & Blattner Hall trash rooms will close one week before move-out day. In the week before move-out day, residents should dispose of trash in the debris bins outside the buildings. Please follow posted signs to ensure the proper sorting and disposal of garbage, waste, recyclables, and compost. Large items should never be left in trash rooms; they should be disposed of outside in the appropriate debris bins. Students should refrain from putting trash in non-CCA-affiliated debris bins or dumpsters.

Donations

Here is a short list of organizations near campus that accept donations of gently used clothes and household items:

  • Goodwill Donation Center, 121 Wisconsin Street, San Francisco, CA 94107
  • Out of the Closet - Folsom, 1295 Folsom Street, San Francisco, CA 94103
  • Book Donation Center, 1630 17th Street, San Francisco, CA 94107 (between Carolina & Wisconsin)

Cleaning Checklist

Make sure your room is nice and tidy when you move out. If you notice any damages that weren't included in the Room Condition Report completed at the beginning of the semester, please let us know. Additional charges may be assessed if items in the checklist are incomplete or there is damage to the room/unit.
