Fine Arts: Textiles, BFA
About
Engage Your Mind & Hands
Immerse yourself in the world of contemporary art, while you explore one of the oldest aesthetic traditions in the world. In our fine arts-based Textiles Program, you’ll develop a strong historical and theoretical knowledge of the field. You’ll also build a diverse creative practice in which you explore everything from weaving to textile printing to sculptural fiber.
Once you earn your bachelor of arts, you’ll be equipped to challenge others to think differently about textiles, crafts, and fine art.
Learn from Leading Textiles Artists
Study with our internationally renowned Textiles faculty at one of the preeminent textiles programs in the nation. Engage in discourse -- from gender and race to industrialization and colonization. Develop a nuanced creative practice that intertwines traditional skills such as spinning and knitting with contemporary interdisciplinary strategies and cutting-edge digital technology.
Explore Cultural Traditions & Social Progress
Located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, which is acclaimed for its innovative textiles, our program foregrounds new paradigms like sustainable design and the slow-textiles movement, the resurgence of craft-based principles and practices, and fine arts explorations of materiality and process.
By integrating disparate environmental, cultural, and conceptual issues in the field of textiles, you’ll learn to create truly meaningful work.
